If it isn't evident from the "About Me," this blog was created primarily for the purposes of my MSLS coursework -- specifically, a course called Information Systems in Libraries & Information Centers (LSC 555 if you're really interested). The bulk (if not all) of my postings, at least this semester, will be my reflection and commentary on my readings for class. Although I have my first set of readings, I am not prepared to offer commentary on them just yet, so I suppose I don't have much of importance to say tonight; however, I am an organized and systematic person and there is something about beginning a blog without a proper beginning that I know will really bug me if I ignore it.
My hope and intention is to maintain my blog even beyond this class, for a couple of reasons. First, I have never had a blog before (technically I had a few old LiveJournal accounts, but those are best lost to history and would hardly count) and I'm therefore excited to see what it might be like to keep a blog.
But more importantly, I am studying to become a librarian. In my grandmother's day (and she was a librarian), librarians dealt primarily with books. In the 21st century, this is no longer the case, as the advent of the internet and other technological tools has opened a variety of possibilities for creating, storing, retrieving and utilizing information. Social networking tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and (of course) blogs are also becoming useful to librarians; therefore, I consider it my responsibility to figure out how to use them! Fortunately, it sounds like this course will be very helpful in terms of revamping and further developing my (slightly-rusty) technological skills.
